Burial: Hicks Cemetery. Memorials: American Cancer Mather farmed for many years in Lee Township on the family farm home-steaded by her husband's parents. Mr. Mather died March 8, 1972 and she lived on the farm until moving to Saulk Village to live with her daughter 13 years ago. Mrs.

Mather was a charter member of the former Mt Hope Lutheran Church and attended Zion Lutheran Church. She was active in her daughter's church after moving to Saulk Village. She was a former member of the Rebekkah Lodge in Olivet and she and her husband were school board members of the former Kibler School for many years. She and her neighbors also formed the Happy Hour Club, which met for many years. Surviving are her son, Lonnie R.

Mather, who lives on the family farm; a daughter, Carol F. Manners of Saulk Village, eight grandchildren and 14 great-granchildren; four brothers, Clifford Bailey of Union City, Richard Bailey of East Leroy, James Bailey of Salem, Louis Bailey of Custer, S.D.; sisters, Mable Guthrie of Drain, and Frances Kanihan of Santa Rosa, Calif. She was preceded in death by brothers, George and Cleo, in infancy; and sisters, Marie, Delma and Mildred. Visitation: 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Craig K.

Kempf Funeral Home in Marshall. Services: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Rev. David Boedecker officiating. Burial: Oakridge Cemeter with committal service by Pastor Jerry Carlson.

She is survived by her husband, Walter Jatoft; daughters Julie Lux and Sharie Perkins, both of Battle Creek, and Connie Daniels of Paonia, a son, Bruce Rizor of Battle Creek; stepdaughters Irene McKinley of Dewitt and Jeannette Jatoft of Fresno, stepsons, John Jatoft of Concord, and Michael Jatoft of Plantation, and 23 grandchildren. Ledford, 78, of St. Petersburg, and formerly of Battle Creek, died Wednesday, May 20, 1992, in The Abbey Nursing Home in St. Petersburg. She was born Dec. 10, 1913, in Crawford, to John and Margaret (Padgett) Byrd.

She moved to Battle Creek in 1944 and to Florida five years ago. She was employed at Michigan Carton Co. and for 15 years at Sulli-vans. She was a member of the Grand Trunk Retirees and enjoyed gardening and bingo. Her husband, Dock Ledford, died June 4, 1982.

She also is preceded in death by by a son, Damon, who died in 1974; a grandson, Timothy Ledford; and her parents. She is survived by a daughter, Janet Varga of Battle Creek; sons, Marsh Ledford of Flint Frank Ledford of Holly and Joe Ledford of St Petersburg, 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen Clevenger and Dorothy Bradley of Battle Creek and Louise Bernard of Petosky. Visitation: After 6 p.m. today at the Shaw-Estes Funeral Home, were the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. today and Monday.

Webster, 83, of 212 Dunham Battle Creek, died Thursday, May 21, 1992, in Battle Creek Health SystemCommunity Site, where he had been a patient since May 11. He was bom April 25, 1909, in Co-lona, III, to Harry R. and Mabel (Hea-ly) Webster. Mr. Webster came to Battle Creek in 1924 and graduated from Battle Creek Central High School.

in 1927. He worked for Grand Trunk Western Railroad from 1927 to 1947 and then worked for the Post Division of General Foods until 1967. He also taught welding at Battle Creek Central Vocational High School for many years. He was a charter member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, and a former member of the Riverside Country Club, Battle Creek Masonic Lodge No. 12 and Lakeland United Methodist Church in Lakeland, Fla.

He had lived in Florida for the last 15 winters. His first wife, the former Helen V. Langs, died June 10, 1967. His second wife, Lucile I. (Forester) Taylor, died June 13, 1988.

He was also preceded in death by sisters, Carolyn Brandimore, Marian Fashbaugh and Mabel Stevens. He is survived by daughters Melva Zaharion of Battle Creek and A. Jeannette Gould of Cincinnati, Ohio; son, Neil L. Webster of Cincinnati; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a stepdaughter, Bessie Mae Smith of Battle Creek; stepsons Robert L. Taylor of Battle Creek and Gerald R.

Taylor of Dickinson, Texas; 9 stepgrandchildren; 16 stepgreat-grandchildren and sisters, Harriet Schneeberger of Bradenton, and Madge Volmer of Santa Rosa, Calif. Services: Were held Saturday. Calahan Marshall Janies J. Calahan, 65, of 15011 West Michigan Marshall, died in Zephyrhifis, Thursday, May 21, 1992, after a long illness. He was born March 4, 1927, in Jackson to Hugh and Estella (Cornell) Callahan.

He lived in Marshall most of his life but spent the last four winters in Florida. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S Army and the U.S. Navy. Mr. Calahan was a machinist at Eaton Corp.

for 30 years before he retired in 1980. He was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 676 in Marshall and was formerly a member of the Claude E. Hale Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4073.

He enjoyed doing woodworking. He married Gladys M. Miller on Feb. 19, 1972, in Battle Creek. She survives.

Surviving are daughters, Sharon L. Houtz of Coldwater and Barbara J. Philyaw of Slidell, a stepson, the Rev. Ronald Buckmaster of Battle Creek; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Albert Callahan of Fort Myers, Edward Callahan of Greenville, Melvin Callahan of Benton Harbor, Harold Callahan of Ft. Smith, and Kenneth and Hugh Callahan, both of Cold-water; sisters, Irene Potter of Battle Creek, Peggy Orrison of Marshall, Mary Rhodes of Paris, and Judith Shipton of Leroy; half-brothers, William Avery of Union City and Richard and Ronald Avery, both of Battle Creek.

Davis Battle Creek Donald E. Davis, 54, of Battle Creek, died Saturday, May 23, 1992, at Battle Creek Health SystemLeila Site, where he had been a patient for a day. He was ill for 14 months. He was born Feb. 12, 1938, in Battle Creek to Hugh A.

and Donald E. Davis Gladys J. (Durham) Davis. He was a lifelong resident of the area. He graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1956 and attended the University of Arizona.

He was vice-president of operations for the Graff Trucking Co. for 22 years and was an agent of the ECC Truck Lines for two years. He also was Regional Manager of Midstate Contract Carriers in Kalamazoo the past three years. He was a member of the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo traffic clubs, the Marywood and Riverside country clubs and the Lakeview Booster Club. He enjoyed coaching softball and baseball, and playing golf.

He married Elizabeth L. Miller on March 8, 1958 in Battle Creek. She survives. He is survived by daughters, Dawne A. Franklin of Battle Creek, Diane A.

Davis of Huron, S.D.; sons, Brett A. Davis of Farmington Hills, and Blair A. Davis of Battle Creek; four grandchildren; his mother and stepfather, Gladys J. and James R. Vosburgh of Battle Creek; and his brother, Eugene Miller of Battle Creek.

Gooch Battle Creek John L. Gooch, 50, of Battle Creek, died Friday, May 22, 1992, at his home after a brief illness. He was born in Battle Creek March 2, 1942, to Henry L. and Millie (Swartz) Gooch. He owned Jon Nells Instant Print from 1982 to 1987 and Nellie's Care Home since 1987.

He was previously employed by the Kellogg Co. for 19 years. He was a member and past union representative of the American Federation of Grain Millers Local No. 3 and was a 20-year member of the Loyal Order of the Moose. He enjoyed camping, traveling and gardening.

He married Nellie Brenner on Dec. 29, 1981. She survives. He is survived by a son, John L. Gooch Jr.

of Kalamazoo; daughters, Iris Helwig Fulton Iris (Coffman) Helwig, 44, of Fulton, died Thursday, May 21, 1992, in Battle Creek Health System-Community Site after a brief illness. Mrs. Helwig was born May 12, 1948, in Albion to Claude and Edna (Reese) Coffman. She graduated from Homer High School in 1966. She and her husband, Jacque Helwig, owned and operated a farm in the Fulton area.

She was a homemak-er and seamstress. She was active in the Calhoun County 4-H Program and in the Ath-. ens Area School System since 1975. She was a member of the Athens Lions Club and the Michigan Farm Bureau. She is survived by her husband; daughters, Heidi Weiland of Chicago and Carmin Helwig of Fulton; a son, Vonn Helwig of Fulton; her father of Coldwater; a sister, Eileen Imhof of Tekonsha; brothers, Roy and Terre Coffman, both of Tekonsha, Richard Coffman of Angola, and Floyd Coffman of Laredo, Texas.

Her mother died in 1978. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. today and Monday at Spencer Funeral Home in Athens. Services: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev.

(Reeve) Howe, 93, of South Dibble Hastings, died Thursday, May 21, 1992, in Oaklwan Memorial Hospital in Marshall. She had lived at Marshall Tender Care since Oct 1991. She was bom July 5, 1898 in Eaton County to William and Louisa (Sanders) Reeve. She attended school in Delta Township and graduated in 1921 from Acme Business College. She lived in Delta Mills from 1926 to 1951 and worked as bookkeeper in Lansing for a local bank for several years.

She moved to Hastings in 1951 and worked at Pennys and Pennock Hospital before retiring in 1960. She was the housekeeper at the First United Methodist Church for many years. She was a member of the church, the Ruth Circle and the Pennock Hospital Guild. Her husband of 65 years, Cortland B. Howe, died Oct 13, 1991.

She also was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Reeve. She is survived by her son, C. William Howe of California; a daughter, Carolyn Kelley of Marshall; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Girrbach Funeral Home.

Barbara A. Jatoft Battle Creek Barbara A. Jatoft, 57, of Battle Creek died Thursday, May 21, 1992, at her home. Mrs. Jatoft was born April 15, 1935, in Battle Creek to George and Geraldine (Willmarth) Snyder.

She was a graduate of Battle Creek Central High School She also attended Kellogg Community College for two years. A manager for Sharp Insurance Agency, Mrs. Jatoft also was president of the Parent Teacher Association, McKinley School; City of Battle Creek PTA president; a 15-year Campfire leader; Campfire Girls board president; Cub Scout leader; Cub Scout board of directors member; and past president of FOTO. She was active with the Battle Creek Symphony Orchestra, Friend of the Orchestra, and past president of the Southern Michigan Insurance Women. Iris Helwig Lillian M.

McCurley Coldwater Lillian M. McCurley, 84, of 270 S. Fillmore Road, Coldwater, died in the Community Health Center of Branch County Friday, May 22, 1992. Mrs. McCurley was born Nov.

2, 1907, in Branch County. She attended Lockwood Community Church. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Lester McCurley; sons, William McCurley of Coldwater, Donald McCurley of Big Pine Key, Glenn D. McCurley of New Castle, and Stephen McCurley of Medina, Ohio; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Visitation: 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

James Hospital in Chicago Heights, after a long illness. She was born April 16, 1907 in Fort Wayne, to Frank and Mable (Felton) Bailey. She and her husband, Leslie J. Pearl Moore Battle Creek Pearl (Israel) Moore, 82, of 231 Springview Drive, Battle Creek, died Thursday, May 21, 1992, in Battle Creek Health SystemLeila Site. She was bom in Collierville, April 2, 1990.

She came to Battle Creek in 1947 from Memphis, Term. She was a housekeeper at the Post Tavern Hotel for 28 years and a housekeeper at the Lakeview General Hospital until she retired in 1972. She was a member of the First United Missionary Baptist Church in Kalamazoo and enjoyed crocheting. Her husband, Percy, died in 1966. She is survived by a son, the Rev.

Eddie F. Moore of Battle Creek; stepdaughter, Annie Hunt of Memphis, seven granchildren; 15 greatgrandchildren and two great-greatgrandchildren. Visitation: After 3 p.m. Tuesday at Perry Mortuary, where the family will be present from 6 to 7 p.m. Services: 1 p.m.

Shoens Battle Creek Willetta M. Gefferson) Shoens, 72, of 121 N. Ridgeway Drive, died on Saturday, May 23, 1992, in Marshall Manor. Mrs. Shoens was bom on May 10, 1920, to the late Vemon and Anna (Meredith) Jefferson.

A graduate of Lombard High School in Chica Willetta M. Shoens go, Mrs. Shoens was a homemaker and enjoyed traveling. She was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church in Dearborn. She moved to Battle Creek three years ago to be near her daughter.

She married Robert J. Shoens on May 20, 1943. He survives. She is survived by daughters, Cynthia L. Mumford of Battle Creek and Linda M.
