Ionia Mich July Allen Morse 82 former justice of the supreme court of Michigan and United States consul at Glasgow (Scotland died here at 10 riday following a sudden heart attack He suffered an attack Tuesday but apparently was much Improved riday morning when his physician visited him Mr Morse was a native of Ionia county He attended Michigan Agricultural college and was a student in the law department of the University of Michigan when the Civil war broke out He enlist ed as a private and soon was pro moted to first lieutenant and later became adjutant on the staff of Colonel Sheridan in Sher division He lost an arm at Missionary Ridge and was sent to his home He opened in 1880 was preme court high position in 1892 to become Democratic candidate for governor but was defeated Soon afterwards hd was appointed by President Cleveland United States counsul at Glasgow where he served four years ollowing his return Mr Morse served as state Senator from this district as mayor' of lonja and was prosecuting attor ney of Ionia county He retired fifteen years ago following a se vere illness which affected his mental alertness and has lived in seclusion ever since Mr Morse was a
